Abilene's H-E-B celebrated 35 years in the city on Saturday, Oct. 31. The Abilene High cheer team performed, and the store honored 13 employees, or 'partners,' who have worked there since it opened.

H-E-B also gave $10,000 each to Friends of the Abilene Public Library, Houses for Healing and Keep Abilene Beautiful. The rest of the day had cupcakes, cooking demos and raffles.

Outside, much of the parking lot at the store in the 1300 block of Barrow Street is still fenced off. The company is spending about $2 million to expand its curbside and delivery operation and redo the lot. Filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation originally projected completion by the end of August, and H-E-B says it doesn't have a confirmed finish date yet.

H-E-B still owns land off Buffalo Gap Road but hasn't announced plans for a second Abilene store.
