Lifelong Abilenian makes his case for Taylor County Treasurer
Democratic nominee Pierce LoPachin, a staff accountant, says his experience fits the office.
CountyPierce LoPachin, the Democratic nominee for Taylor County Treasurer, has lived in Abilene his whole life. He was born at Hendrick Medical Center on Halloween 1984 and went to college at McMurry University.
LoPachin works as a staff accountant at an Abilene CPA firm. He is not a CPA himself, a point the original interview had to correct. In a long-form podcast interview, he said Taylor County's current financial practices are sound but that his accounting work would bring useful skills to the Treasurer's Office.
He traced his interest in public service to volunteering as a young man at Presbyterian Medical Care Mission and to his grandmother. Now 94, she spent years serving medically fragile residents at the Abilene State Supported Living Center. LoPachin is also active in Abilene Community Theatre, where several members of his family have performed.
LoPachin said living with a disability has shaped his views on health care and public policy. He acknowledged he's running as a Democrat in a strongly Republican county and asked voters who seldom back Democrats to give him a look, pointing to a local tradition of the two parties working together.
