Abilene City Council agenda for Nov. 5: interim IT director contract, cheaper raw water for builders, seven zoning votes
The council meets at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at City Hall and will also vote on paying for a concrete railroad crossing on Anson Avenue.
City HallThe Abilene City Council meets at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, in the council chambers at City Hall, 555 Walnut St. The meeting airs live on Cable Channel 2 and streams on the city's website, where past meetings are also archived.
Council members will consider a contract of up to $265,000 with BNC Group Holdings, LLC to help run the city's Information Technology Department after a review of the department. The deal covers placing an interim IT director, recruiting a permanent one, and six months of advice on technology leadership, cybersecurity and planning. The IT budget would pay for it.
On first reading, the council will take up a new fee of $5 per 1,000 gallons for untreated water that contractors use for jobs like dust control and soil compaction. Contractors now pay $9.91 per 1,000 gallons for treated water. The city says the change would leave more drinking water for everyone else. The raw water is not safe to drink, and contractors would cover the cost of any extra infrastructure they need.
The council will also decide whether to give $83,417.55 to Southern Switching Company to replace the asphalt railroad crossing on Anson Avenue just east of Pine Street with concrete, as part of planned street work. The city can't work inside the railroad's easement, so the railroad would do the job. The money would come from either minor improvement project funds or street maintenance fee funds.
Seven land-use items are up for final votes. They include a conditional use permit for about 18,000 square feet of tenant warehouse space on the 300 block of East South 11th Street, plus rezonings on the 7100 block of Buffalo Gap Road (to general commercial), near Old Anson Road (to multi-family), on the 700 block of South 11th Street (for single-family homes), on the 100 block of Tannehill Drive (for an ambulance service in a former print shop), at a planned development on the 3400 block of North 10th Street (to add multi-family), and on about 77 acres along U.S. 277 South (to patio homes).
Appointments to several advisory boards are also on the agenda. You can find the full agenda and packet on the city's Agendas and Minutes page.
