Sponsors near the goal of a wreath for all 2,000 veterans at Brownwood's Greenleaf Cemetery

The Welcome W. Chandler Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas is close to its goal of sponsoring a wreath for every one of the roughly 2,000 veterans buried at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood.

Each fresh balsam wreath costs $17 and is shipped from Maine. Greenleaf is one of 2,700 official sites for National Wreaths Across America Day, which falls on Saturday, Dec. 19, with the local ceremony at 10 a.m.

The chapter thanked local donors, volunteers and the American Legion, which helps with the event.
