The Abilene Fire Department scheduled a ceremony for 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12, at Station 4, 3750 Grape St., to put a new Engine 4 into service, the city said. It is the third of four new engines the department is adding this year.

The second, Engine 6, went into service Sept. 24 at Station 6, 1482 South Danville Drive. The department marks each new engine with a push-in, a tradition from the days of horse-drawn equipment, when crews had to push the rig back into the bay by hand.
