Abilene firefighters were called to a house fire in the 1800 block of South 3rd Street at about 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3. When the first crews pulled up, a large part of the single-family home was already burning.

Firefighters attacked the fire and stopped it before it moved into the rest of the house. A backyard shed and a carport beside the home were lost.

The owners were home when the fire started. They got out on their own and nobody was hurt, the fire department said.

Investigators ruled the fire accidental. The department estimates the damage at about $30,000.
