Pickup and stone-hauling semi collide on Breckenridge's West Walker Street; driver flown to hospital
Eastbound U.S. 180 traffic was sent down FM 3099 for more than an hour.
Weather & TrafficA pickup and a tractor-trailer loaded with large stone slabs collided around 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, on West Walker Street (U.S. 180) in Breckenridge.
Police Chief Blake Johnson said the early investigation showed the semi was heading east when the westbound pickup turned left toward a business on the south side of the road and pulled into its path. The crash knocked the pickup onto its side and off the south edge of the road.
The pickup's driver, a local man and its only occupant, was taken by ambulance to Stephens Memorial Hospital and then flown to a larger hospital. The truck driver was not hurt.
Eastbound lanes were closed and traffic was detoured onto FM 3099 for more than an hour, with one westbound lane open. Breckenridge police and firefighters, Sacred Cross EMS and the Stephens County Sheriff's Office responded. The crash is still under investigation.
