The Abilene Fire Department was sent to a reported house fire near North 6th and Kirkwood Street at about 1:13 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26.

With help from people nearby, firefighters found the fire at a home in the 400 block of Kirkwood. The flames were already out when crews arrived, but material near the back door was still smoldering, so firefighters ran a hose line and put out the last embers.

Everyone inside got out safely and no injuries were reported. Damage is estimated at about $1,200.

The Abilene Fire Marshal's Office investigated and determined the fire was set intentionally. It is now being handled as an incendiary fire, and no suspect has been publicly identified.
