Pumpkin contest, Mall-O-Ween and folklore talks: Halloween at the Abilene library
All month, the library ran programs from storytimes to talks on local cryptids. Pumpkin contest winners were due by Nov. 3.
CommunityThe Abilene Public Library spent October on Halloween programs, with something at every branch for every age.
Kids had Jack O'Lantern Jamboree, Frankenstein's Lab, not-so-scary storytimes and talks on Texas bats and spiders. Teens made neon ghost crafts and blackout poetry. Adults could take a ghost-story writing workshop, make life-size felt bats and beaded orb weaver spiders, or hear about Taylor County's cryptids and local folklore.
On Oct. 26, the South Branch joined Mall-O-Ween at the Mall of Abilene with treats, games and a family movie. On Oct. 29, library staff were at the Abilene Police Department's Trunk or Treat and at the Grace Museum's Day of the Dead Festival.
The South Branch's annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest had five categories: kids, tweens, teens, adults, and families or teams. Voting ran through Oct. 31, in person at the branch inside the Mall of Abilene or by 'liking' entries on the library's Facebook page. Winners were to be announced by Nov. 3.
The library's full calendar is at abilenetx.gov/apl/Calendar.
